This home design is centred around the two storey greenhouse which generates excess heat in colder times of the year, and a series of thermostatically controlled low wattage fans pump day time warm air into two strategically located thermal heat sinks which regulate the homes winter temperature. One heat sink is granite filled under slab trenches, the other is high volume water wall. The green house also allows the owner to grow bananas in Quindalup all year round!
The home also enjoys a very positive solar passive design layout maximising winter sun heating.
Home design was by Northlight Building Design.
Building with Valmadre was a very enjoyable experience. Although my house was built whilst I was absent, and despite the somewhat unconventional design features incorporated to enhance sustainability, the whole process was very efficient and hassle free. Valmadre's attention to detail and willingness to embrace different concepts ensured that we ended up with a very live-able home that met my expectations and also achieves the environmental outcomes that were planned.
